24 Jan 11 The Clemson Tigers Can Make a Statement Saturday Night Against Auburn
Al Messerschmidt/Getty ImagesLast weekend's ACC debacle was well documented. We know the story, Miami went down to Ohio State. Florida State was in their game with Oklahoma for about 6 minutes. Georgia Tech lost to a Kansas team that hadn't won since last October. Then the kicker, preseason Jacksonville Jaguars jersey
ACC favorite Virginia Tech lost at home to James Madison. Oh it was a rough weekend. This weekend the ACC has a chance at a little redemption, with some of these games: Cincinnati vs NC State, West Virginia vs Maryland, Alabama vs Duke, and Auburn vs Clemson. For NC State and Maryland winning their games would be nice, but would they move the needle nationally? I'm not sure. Duke winning of course would send shockwaves across the country. I actually think the Blue Devils may score on the Tide, but they just can't come close to matching Alabama in the trenches. I'm expecting a 42-21 type loss. If the ACC wants a realistic shot at a game that will catch people's attention it has to be Clemson and the SEC's Auburn Tigers. Not only will a win give a little boost to the conference, but obviously for Clemson as well. With each of the ACC's preseason top teams having already lost, or in the Hokies case collapsed, a Tiger win would firmly establish Clemson as the team to beat in the ACC. Auburn is a physical team with a 6'6" beast of a quarterback in Cam Newton. Newton is also Auburn's leading rusher. The Clemson defensive line will have to find some way to contain Newton. DT Nick Fairly looked like an All-American against Mississippi St and will be a load to handle. Kansas City Chiefs jersey
Clemson head Coach Dabo Swinney has been trying to toughen up the Tiger's since he took over head coaching duties in 2008. That was the setback the Tigers for years under Tommy Bowden. They weren't a physical team. These Tigers might be better equipped to play that type of game than in years past. Andre Ellington is the quick elusive RB, and Jamie Harper is the strong north south runner. At one point I thought Harper might be a High School all-star bust, but he's stepped it up this year and is running the best he ever has. QB Kyle Parker is shaking of Miami Dolphins jersey
the rust from his time playing baseball, and is no stranger to big games. Six feet, four inches and 255 lb TE Dwayne Allen has star potential and must come up big in this game. Auburn is a very good team, but they are not unbeatable. Can you imagine how poorly they would be without him?Perhaps now you'll understand the hearty hoorah that sounded from Arkansas when they finally let Houston Nutt go. win of the season, as both programs come into the game this weekend 0-2 in the SEC.Looking at the college football lines for this game, the oddsmakers have Mississippi State favored by 1.5 points over Georgia at home. Georgia (1-2)The Bulldogs got off to a fast start with a touchdown on their first drive of the game, but it was the only points they could manage in the first half, and wound up trailing 17-7 at halftime.Things didnget any better after the third quarter, as Georgia trailed 24-10 going into the final period of play, but all the sudden Georgia got things rolling and with just under four minutes left in the game it was tied 24-24. Georgia got the ball back with a chance to win, but was unable to get anything going, and after punting the ball to Arkansas, the Razorbacks drove the ball 72 yards in 47 seconds for the win. In the loss, quarterback Aaron Murray threw for 253 yards and a touchdown, and also added a nice one-yard touchdown run for the Bulldogs first score of the game. On a positive note, the defense did a pretty good job of shutting down LSU when they got close, as they forced the Tigers into a school record five field goals. Without much fanfare, the Seattle Seahawks' linebacking corps may actually be the best the NFL has to offer. Anyone who asked that question should be banned from commenting on anything related to sports.Mike Brown is a better coach than most people will give him credit for and this Cleveland team will not start playing their collective best until after the allstar break. They only need 10-15 points and 7-10 rebounds a game from Shaq in about 22 minutes of play during the regular season. I expect his minutes to go up to about 27-30 in the playoffs and him a Z seeing some court time together against bigger line ups.Parker and Moon are defending perimeter players just as they were brought in to do. Parker is shooting the 3 better than anyone in the league and Mo Williams and Gibson are not far behind. The bench is learning how to run offence with Lebron out of the game. This is the only weak spot right now but that has improved over the last 8 games.I have seen Cleveland and Boston live this year and when the Celtics are on their game their ball movement is impeccable but they are not playing with the same intensity on defence as years past. They still have one of the best points allowed and Cleveland is close behind them.Where Cleveland takes the rest of the league is their bench and their bench will be even better by playoff time because Leon Powe will be with the team.Lebron is the X factor and if this team doesn't win it all I would be shocked. There no team up to now who could replicate the famous Michigan Wolverines Fab Five We all remember how the brash talking stereotype fab five who dominated each and every game and made collegiate basketball a breath of fresh air with their baggy shorts and first-class talent. Chris Webber, Jalen Rose, Juwan Howard, Ray Jackson and Jimmy King are all freshmen who stormed NCAA with a Beatles like charisma. The most watched college basketball team in NCAA history and the controversial one. They never won any Buffalo Bills jersey
championships And the team was covered with hullabaloos with game fixing and money laundering issues. The blue collared chips fab five players played basketball like their own playground and their breath taking talents made them an instant celebrity. We all remember the famous Webber timeout with zero timeout left in the game. Webber was slapped with a technical foul and causes their championship game against North Carolina. Webber decided to enter the NBA draft amidst the talks and continued a long and multi million dollar NBA career. Webber was indicted with accepting an illicit loans while still in highschool and gave a period to the controversial most renowned recruiting class program of Michigan State. So what happened to the once mighty Fab Five?
