Two age-old NFC North rivals meet in a clash that could determine the outcome of the division ... that's right football fanatics: The um, 0-2 Green Bay Packers pay a visit to the Detroit Lions, who, um...Oh, nevermind: There's no need to hype up Sunday's Packers at Lions game (or Washington at Houston, or Tennessee at Miami, for that matter) at all. You're either going to watch it or you won't. For those of you dedicated (read: sick) enough to plod through this matchup of arguably the two single most disappointing teams not in the NFC South, here are seven things you Reebok Dallas Cowboys #9 Tony Romo Realtree camo Jersey
might want to watch. (And if you need seven more, check out the RealFootball's Green Bay Packers page.)Ernie Sims. In two games, this first-round pick has been eating up the opposition, with a monstrous 17 tackles. The thinking on choosing Sims was that he'd be an excellent fit in Marinelli's Tampa 2 defense. Excellent thinking it was: Sims currently looks like he was born to play this defense and is becoming an (admittedly very) early attention-getter in talk about Defensive Rookie of the Year. Green Bay will continue to be soft on the offensive line, and Sims will be key in controlling the Pack's short-yardage game.Ted Thompson. Somebody just make sure he doesn't try to hop a plane to Sri Lanka while Green Bay's down 23-7 in the third, OK? A few folks want to talk to him...Steam. Specifically, that coming out of Brett Favre's ears. Seriously, is Favre edging slowly toward a Samuel Jackson "Guns of Navarone" mushroom-cloud laying tizzy? Outside of Ahman Green and Donald Driver, who represented 71 percent of Green Bay's yardage and 60.7 percent of Reebok Denver Broncos #15 Tim Tebow Realtree camo Jersey
touches last week, Favre's heart isn't into playing with any of these guys. One more fourth-quarter series in which he chucks four consecutive incompletions and/or silly postgame question about, say, being traded for Daunte Culpepper and that's it: Vesuvius Favre. Could happen this week.Detroit on third down. Jon Kitna went 23-for-30 last week with zero interceptions and yet the Lions were "good" for just seven points. Why? The silver-and-Honolulu blue were a pitiful 1-of-9 on third down. Of those nine plays, six were passes. Kitna completed three, but twice on short routes well-covered. Two of the Bears' six sacks came on third down. Kitna's been making the passes at just about a 66 percent clip; they're just the wrong passes, apparently.Sharp or heavy instruments, especially in the Detroit area, should the Lions slowly let a three-touchdown lead slip away in the second half, as has happened so frequently in the recent past. Just doing my part to ensure the safety of the fine citizens of Michigan.Jason Hanson and the guy who's his counterpart on the Packers. The most notable feature of Weeks 1 and 2, of course, has been the abundance of field goal scoring. The Elias Sports Bureau calculated that the 28 percent of points that field goals represent are the highest ever for the first two weeks of Reebok Green Bay Packers #12 Aaron Rodgers Realtree camo Jersey
play. It's nice that a Dave Rayner can become a household name. (The household is in Oxford, Mich.) For this game, the over/under on field goals attempted is 252. Brady Quinn. Because I'll tell you what: Whoever loses this game will have one eye firmly planted on Notre Dame football for some time.RealFootball365: Keeping one eye on the Green Bay Packers and one on the Detroit Lions at all times.
