Matt Leinart Cadillac

Got something to say?Sign Up and be the first to comment on this article!Matt Leinart is like a 1996 Cadillac: dependable, well-equipped, and efficient. But the problem with being a Cadillac in 1996 is that you're built for the retired class in Florida. You are the archetype for humdrum: slow, bulky, remotely flashy. But underneath the massive clunk of metal that clothes the interior of this classic vehicle is a safe, comfortable haven. The other archetype for security, dependability, reliability. The problem is that Leinart is in a draft class that seems to be in love with the riskier choices: the Porsches, the Mustangs, the Ferraris. General Managers holding the top draft picks have seemingly become teenagers throughout the last several weeks-they don't care how high the insurance will be, they want that red convertible with the tinted windows.Who knows匱he car could run for 120,000 miles strong; or, it could crash before reaching the end of the block. But that 1996 Cadillac going 25 miles-per-hour in the slow lane? Safe as ever. This Saturday, the Tennessee Titans will have to decide which quarterback they will leave the draft dealership with. As holders of the third overall pick in the 2006 NFL Draft, the Titans will likely be the first team to pluck a quarterback out of the positional pool. So it would make sense that the Heisman Trophy winning quarterback, Matt Leinart, would be that quarterback. After all, the team's offensive coordinator, Norm Chow, has a history working with Leinart and head coach Jeff Fisher is a USC graduate himself. But not so fast. Or should I say匩ot so slow.Titans' General Manager, Floyd Reese, is one of those rebellious teens looking to cruise at an unbelted 95 miles-per-hour. The man behind the decision-making this weekend seems to favor Texas' Vince Young-that dangerous red Porsche that costs more than it should, but can dash, duck, and fly.In regards to the 6'5", 233-pound Longhorn, Reese commented, "I don't think I've seen a quarterback with the athleticism he has, and we had Steve McNair for a while." For Reese, this freakish athleticism of Vince Young has somehow seemed to overshadow the slower, more hush athleticism of Matt Leinart, who completed 64.8 of his college passes for 10,693 yards, 99 touchdowns and 23 interceptions. But can he go from zero to 60 in 3.4 seconds? I didn't think so.Following the Titans are the New York Jets and Green Bay Packers. Both of these clubs already have their garages filled to capacity, so a quarterback looks highly improbable. For the Jets, who already employ Chad Pennington and Patrick Ramsey, D'Brickashaw Ferguson, Mario Williams, or Vernon Davis seem to lead the pack. For Green Bay, who has both Brett Favre and Aaron Rodgers, A.J. Hawk seems to be the wanted man in town. That leaves the San Francisco 49ers as the only remaining stratum between the Raiders and the 2004 Heisman Trophy winner. Here's the case of another "look past the 憀ac" scenario. The 49ers will likely take Vernon Davis-this year's Hummer on the lot-if he is still available. The physical tight end is 6'3", 263 pounds in stature and trucked for a 4.38 40-yard dash at the combine. Forget about those gas prices; look at the size of those wheels. But in the event that the Maryland tight end is true to his word and is grabbed by the New York Jets at pick four, then San Francisco will still steer clear of a quarterback, as they selected Alex Smith with the first overall pick in last year's draft. So here it is
